Retirement Visa (Non-Immigrant O-A/O-X)

General Introduction

The Retirement Visa, or Non-Immigrant Visa types O-A and O-X, is the perfect choice for individuals over 50 years old who wish to enjoy a peaceful retirement life in Thailand – a country renowned for its warm climate, reasonable cost of living, and high-quality healthcare system. The O-A type allows a 1-year stay with annual renewals, while the O-X offers greater long-term stability with a validity of up to 5-10 years (depending on conditions). Updated and maintained in 2025, this visa not only helps you avoid the hassles of short-term visas but also opens opportunities to enjoy your golden years by the beach, participate in community activities, and explore Thailand’s diverse culture in a sincere and profound way.

Requirements

To ensure you are eligible to enjoy retirement life without obstacles, the requirements are clear and focus on health and financial stability. Specifically:

– Age of 50 years or older (at the time of application) and not listed on Thailand’s entry ban list.

– Financial proof: For O-A, you need at least 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account (maintained for at least 2 months before applying) or a monthly income of at least 65,000 THB from a reliable source, such as a pension. For O-X, the requirements are higher: a bank deposit of at least 3 million THB, or a combination of 1.8 million THB in a bank deposit and an annual income of at least 1.2 million THB (approximately 100,000 THB/month).

– Health insurance: Mandatory for O-A with coverage of at least 100,000 USD (approximately 3 million THB) for outpatient treatment and 400,000 THB for inpatient treatment; O-X also encourages health insurance to ensure well-being.

– A passport valid for at least 6 months, passport photos, a completed visa application form, a retirement status confirmation letter, and visa fees (depending on the type). You must also have no criminal record and may need a medical check to prove good health.

Benefits

With the Retirement Visa, you not only get long-term residency but also comprehensive support to make your retirement life more meaningful. The annual renewal process is relatively simple, allowing you to focus on enjoying life rather than worrying about paperwork. You can access exclusive benefits for retirees, such as discounts at spas, golf courses, hospitals, and additional Elite Visa programs. The visa allows you to bring your spouse and children under 20 years old with a dependent visa, facilitating family reunification. Moreover, you can easily purchase real estate, open a bank account, and participate in community activities, helping you build a fresh and happy life in Thailand – a place many have chosen as their “second home.”
